Tough to find, the premium shows Williams with a simple sepia photo. Either way, it came out in his rookie year and carries a lot of interest and value. It's debatable as to whether the 1939 Goudey Premium is a card or something closer to a picture. Honorable Mention #2: 1939 Goudey Premiums R303-A Ted Williams The card was inserted in 1999 Upper Deck Retro. Bolstered by the set's prestige, the Piece of History 500 Club Ted Williams remains one of his most valuable relics. Even without a massive saturation of jersey and bat cards like a lot of players have, collectors can find some reasonably priced pieces of Ted Williams gear cards. However, the popularity of Upper Deck's A Piece of History 500 Club set transcends your average bat and jersey cards.

Yeah, yeah, yeah - memorabilia cards don't have the same magic as they used to. Honorable Mention #1: 1999 Upper Deck Piece of History 500 Club Ted Williams Game-Used Bat Appearance and history are also among the things that came into play. Value was a major factor, but not the only one. Because it was hard to get it down to 20, we've waffled a little and added a couple of honorable mentions, one of which may or may not be a card depending on how you look at it. Needless to say, the continuity of Ted Williams cards during his career is non-existent from company to company.īelow we count down 20 of the best Ted Williams cards ever produced. A few years after that, Williams signed an exclusive deal with Fleer that shut Topps out once again. When there were Ted Williams Bowman cards, there weren't any from Topps. In some ways, this makes things murky when it comes to labels and collecting preferences.įurther complicating things was various deals that meant Ted Williams cards were in some brands but not others. Rations also meant fewer cards were produced. Having served during the war, it limited his appearances on things during his prime. The history of Ted Williams cards is a long one, starting before WWII. Not surprisingly, Ted Williams cards continue to draw plenty of support with today's collectors. 4.5 hp Sears Ted Williams Eska - Model 217.Ted Williams is one of those players that nobody is going to argue about as to whether he's a legend or not.Gets me out to the mooring a lot quicker, although the row is long - it can be enjoyable too in some conditions. She is running pretty nice for an old single stroke(33 lb) motor, sometimes starting on the first few pulls. The lower cover I currently do not have on, mainy due to how hard it is to spray gas/oil mix in a pinch into the carburetor with it on.

I rebuilt the carburetor with parts (Carb Kit DI-52030) from I replaced the black gas line with a clear line and have an inline fuel filter which I highly recommend.

Anyone else working on one of these?Īfter reading through a manual snagged off of Ebay, I found that the recommended gas to oil mixture is 24:1, replaced the spark plug(manual calls for Champion J13Y, I used substitute Champion RJ14YC), recut the high tension lead wire and rebooted the spark plug cover.

With some starter fluid, was able to start the engine for a few seconds until it burned up(note: better to spray gas/oil mix from old spray bottle, as starter fluid doesn't have required oil lubrication) - Next steps will be cleaning/rebuilding the carb, and possibly cleaning some carbon off the cylinder head and replacing the head gasket if I can find the part. First steps - drain old gas, clean or replace fuel lines, make sure spark plug is working correctly, and check compression. It is a two-stroke, and a great introduction to working on outboard motors for me. Started working on an old outboard I aquired with the dinghy, its a 1972 Sears Ted Williams (217.59462 made by Eska) 4.5 HP outboard.
